A Wargrave football club has been given a donation towards training costs.

Huawei a global information and communications technology solutions provider donated £1,000 to the Wargrave Wolves Football Club, a boys under 14 club, as part of its UK Make a Difference Programme.

The money will go towards renting an all-weather football facility that is located at a school in Wargrave, where a new Astro turf training ground has been built. The club was formed with the help of local fathers in 2007 for local boys to play football and in 2010 the team entered the Berkshire Youth Football Association League.

The Make a Difference Campaign encourages Huawei employees to submit an application for support of up to £1,000 for a charity, community group of sports club in their local area. Huawei now employs over 1,100 people at over 15 locations across the UK and the programme is open to all employees to make a submission.

Mike Brown, Managing Director of TalkTalk account, Huawei, and one of the founders of the Wargrave Wolves Football Club, said: "I’m very pleased with this award and would like to thank Huawei for presenting the grant of £1,000 to the Wargrave Wolves Football Club. This money will go towards a great facility local to where the children live, which means we no longer have to travel so far to play football. As the facility is brand new, and all-weather, it also means we no longer have to cancel training due to bad weather."

Gordon Luo, CEO, Huawei UK, said: "I’m very pleased our Make a Difference Programme is helping Huawei employees connect with the local communities where they live. The local community is important to us and we want to support our employees and the initiatives that are important to them. In April 2013 we relocated our headquarters to Reading, Green Park and this donation emphasises our commitment to the local area."
