ON YOUR marks, set, go, rang out across the Englefield Estate as more than 300 runners lined up for its 10k race last Monday.

The multi-terrain course through the estate, near Theale, is now a major event in the running calendar.

This year marked the sixth annual race, which is organised by Reading Abbey Rotary Club.

This year's race was set up to raise money for Hope for Tomorrow, a cancer support charity.

With an increase in the number of runners compared to previous events, the organisers estimate they have raised at least £3000.

First man across the finish line this year was Scott Kennedy, with a breathtaking time of 37 minutes and 35 seconds.

The first woman home was Sophie Crumley, with a time just shy of 40 minutes.

The junior race was also a hit this year, with James Snoad-Speck sprinting through the ribbon 55 minutes and 22 seconds.

Rotary Club president Mike Baker said: “I’d like to thank everyone who made the sixth Englefield run, jointly organised by the Reading Abbey Rotary Club and Tadley Runners, the largest and most successful in the history of the event."

This year also saw the first family treasure hunt, attracting around 20 families as they found clues in the surroundings.

Each clue led to a letter and the children putting together a word spelling lumberjack.

Mr Baker added: "Most of all I really want to thank all the competitors who took part. We home you enjoyed the tough course and the splendid surroundings offered by the estate and look forward to you supporting us in the future."
