CHILDREN with special educational needs will be able to take part in more activities thanks to a generous donation.

Brookfields School unveiled a new tricycle to improve mobility for disabled pupils following a grant of more than £2,000.

DM Thomas Foundation for Young People awarded the funding in September to the SEN school in Tilehurst and the tricycle was presented by Hilton Reading.

Brandon Mills, head teacher at Brookfields School said: “This tricycle will be of tremendous value to our pupils as it will allow them to not only develop and practise their mobility skills but also to have fun and interact with their peers in the playground.

“We are very grateful to DM Thomas Foundation for Young People for their very generous donation.”

It is the second adaptive tricycle to be handed out by the foundation in the last month, with Woodley-based Thumbs Up Club also benefitting.

Simon Sheehan, director of DM Thomas Foundation for Young People added: “At the Foundation we are committed to supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential by providing specialist equipment to improve their education and achieve their goals.

"We are delighted to fund a new tricycle which will increase pupils’ strength and stamina, helping them to perform day to day activities and increasing their independence.”
