A 50-year-old who hurled racist abuse at his girlfriend's neighbours has been jailed.

Gordon Brodie visited his partner who lived in Beverley Road, Tilehurst, a number of times threatening and harassing her neighbours.

The homeless man's campaign of abuse lasted five months ending in May this year.

He had previously been slapped with an injunction banning him from the road or harassing people living there.

Reading Borough Council officers worked with police officers to put Brodie behind bars.

He was given a two-month jail term for breaching the injunction at Reading County Court on June 7.

Liz Terry, lead member for neighbourhoods, said: “The victims of Mr Brodie suffered harassment, alarm and distress repeatedly over several months.

“Thanks to the robust action taken by the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team and Legal Team in partnership with Thames Valley Police this individual has been brought to justice.”

John Ennis, lead member for housing, said: “This case demonstrates that the Council will not tolerate anti-social behaviour in its properties.

“There are clear rules when individuals take on a Council property and any tenant or their visitors who indulge in anti-social behaviour will be dealt with by our team.”
