BRAVE members of the public collared a man after he tried to sexually assault a woman in an underpass.

Biat Idriss Deen-Kamara has been jailed for more than five years after attacking two women as they walked along an underpass near his home.

The 26-year-old snuck up behind them in the underpass on Granville Road, the same road he lived on, on August 30, 2016.

Deen-Kamara tried to strike up conversation with his first victim in but she ignored him.

He tried to grab her but she escaped and fled.

An hour later he crept up behind another woman, pulling her to the floor.

She fought him off as he tried to sexually assault her.

Deen-Kamara fled the scene but was caught by members of the public who held him until police arrived.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Robert Simpson-Jones, said: “He is an offender who approached two women from behind and attacked them whilst they were on their own, and his sentence has reflected this.

“I would like to pay tribute to the victims for the bravery they have shown during this investigation, and I am pleased they will not have to go through the added ordeal of having to give evidence at court.

“I would also like to thank all those members of the public who apprehended the offender at the scene until police arrived, and those who came forward with information during our investigation which ultimately helped us to bring the case to court.”

Deen-Kamara admitted one count of assault with intent to commit a sexual offence and one count of attempted assault at Reading Crown Court on January 26.

Yesterday, Thursday, February 23, he was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. He was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will have to sign the sex offenders register for life.
