GUN-TOTING robbers threatened staff at a fish and chip shop into handing over cash after storming into the store with a pistol.

The two men snuck in through the back door of the Lemon Plaice fish shop in Tilehurst before demanding money at around 8.20pm yesterday evening.

After threatening two members of staff with the firearm the pair loaded up a bag with the cash before fleeing the Norcot Road restaurant.

No one was injured at the store but a police scene watch has been in place throughout the day to reassure residents and allow officers to conduct inquiries locally.

The first man is described as white, wearing a thick grey woollen hooded top, black trainers with a thick white rim around the edge, a black hat and was carrying a bag.

The other was carrying the gun and was shorter the first man and wearing a dark grey jumper with a hood, black gloves and a black balaclava.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Emma Smith, from Reading Force CID, said: "We are currently investigating the circumstances of this robbery.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around the time of the robbery to contact police.

"Anyone with any concerns or information can approach an officer in the area or call our non-emergency number 101."
