A PAIR of police officers will face gross misconduct hearings after a pedestrian was run over by a police car in 2014.

The officers, one of who was driving the car, will not face criminal charges over the death.

The other police constable was close to Aston Mclean Williams when he died on August 6 last year.

The pedestrian died at the scene after being hit by the car.

Superintendent Stan Gilmour, Local Police Area Commander for Reading, said: “Our thoughts continue to remain with the family of Aston McLean Williams who died following this tragic incident.”

The 28-year-old was struck by a 4x4 as Thames Valley Police officers responded to a burglary at around 1.45am in Eastern Avenue.

The death was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission one week after the crash. They have recommended the pair face gross misconduct charges.

The process could not begin whilst the Crown Prosecution Service considered bringing criminal prosecutions against the two.

A date and arrangements for the hearing will be made shortly.

Eight months after the death Janet Williams was still campaigning to have her son's body released so they could hold a funeral.
