A 34-YEAR-OLD man was rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with suspected hypothermia after being trapped in the Kennet whilst trying to escape from Police.
The man, wanted in connection with a robbery in June, launched himself into the river near Kennet Walk after being spotted by police on Thursday, July 21.
He swam across the river before realising he could not climb the far bank.
He spent 45 minutes in the water before the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were able to rescue him.
Watch manger James Dowd said: “A male trying to evade being arrested took to the river.
“We just sent an inflatable raft and took two officers out to cuff him.”
The police officers were able to cuff the man and he was taken back to shore at 11.29am. He was later rushed to the hospital with suspected hypothermia.
A Twyford man was arrested on suspicion of a burglary in Wallingford on June 29. He has been bailed until August 31.
