A MAN has been charged wounding with intent after a man was found bleeding outside an east Reading Post Office on Thursday morning.

Ambulance staff raised the alarm after they were called to find him slumped in London Road with serious face and head injuries.

Jamie Peters, of Southampton Street, was arrested yesterday and is due to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court today.

A 21-year-old homeless man who was also arrested in connection with the attack has since been released without charge.

The victim was rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he remains.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "We have charged Jamie Peters, 25, of Southampton Street, Reading, with one count of possession of an article with a blade or point or an offensive weapon in a public place and Section 18 wounding with intent.

"He was charged today (22/4) following arrest yesterday and remanded to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court today.

"A 21-year-old of no fixed abode was released without charge."

There were heavy delays on the roads yesterday after police closed off sections of London Road and King's Road in two separate cordons.

David Gallagher, a spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 12.43am to outside the London Road Post Office.

"A male patient had been assaulted. We sent an ambulance to the scene.

"The ambulance crew informed the police. He has serious head and facial injuries and was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital."
