FIREFIGHTERS came to the aid of a hysterical mother after she accidentally locked her four-month-old son alone in their flat.
The woman had gone to step outside briefly when the door closed behind her leaving her young baby on his own in her London Road apartment.
After raising the alarm a fire crew from Wokingham Road station came to her help and gained entry into the home through a window.
The baby boy was found safe and well and returned to his mother once they had reopened the flat door from the inside shortly before 3pm today.
Watch manager Darren Barrett said: "The four-month-old boy was locked in the flat after the mother had somehow got herself locked out.
"We gained access through a first floor window using a triple extension ladder.
"The mother was a bit hysterical but other than that it all ended well."
