ARTHUR Hill pool is to close again for one week while essential maintenance work is carried out.

The Kings Road site will remain open during half term but will be shut to the public on Monday, February 22, for seven days.

Reading Borough Council has had to commission the work to undertake structural repairs to the basement plant room, replace electrical panels and over coating on the poolside tiling.

Councillor Paul Gittings, lead member for culture, sport and consumer services, said: “Arthur Hill remains a very popular leisure facility for many people in Reading and we appreciate its temporary closure is bound to cause some inconvenience.

“However, these essential works cannot be carried out while the centre is open and they are necessary to ensure the pool can continue to be used into the future.”

Back in November the council took the next step in its plans to replace Central Pool and Arthur Hill due to the increasing cost of keeping the ageing facilities in working order.

Central Pool's diving pool is also closed this week until February 19 for maintenance work but the main swimming area is unaffected by this.
