A CHILD has been rushed to hospital with "serious leg injuries" after he was involved in a collision with a van at Cemetery Junction.

The boy was struck by the white Ford Transit in King's Road at around 8am this morning and has since been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Heavy traffic remains in the area though Thames Valley Police have reopened the road.

A police spokesman said: "It was a collision involving a boy and a van.

"The ambulance service and officers have been on the scene.

"It appears that the boy was injured and the ambulance service are treating him."

Officers said the child was around 10 years old and that no action has been taken against the driver of the van at this time.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8.01am to the junction of King's Road and London Road to a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, believed to be a male child.

"We sent an ambulance crew and officer who are assessing and treating one patient who was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

"The patient sustained serious leg injuries."

Police have fully reopened the road but the area remains congested and some Reading Buses services have been affected.
