SPECIALIST swimmers rescued a man in his 60s from the Holy Brook waterway near Coley last night.

Emergency services were called at about 10.20pm following reports that the currently unnamed man had gone into the water.

A water rescue unit from Caversham Road fire station was sent to the scene along with two fire engines, an additional support vehicle, an ambulance and a crew from Wokingham Road fire station.

Rescuers helped the man ashore before he was rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital suffering from shock, hypothermia and a minor leg injury. His condition is presently unknown.

Crew manager Holt, of Caversham Road fire station, said: “We were at the incident for about an hour.”
