CALLING all cocktail makers- one Reading bar is offering the change to head to Germany.

The Puple Turtle, alongside Reading Fringe Festival and Dusseldorf representatives, is to host a cocktail competition where the winner will attend the Reading Weekend in Dusseldorf, Germany on the 6th - 8th October.

In Germany they will mix and present their cocktail at the ‘Shake it, Reading’ event at The Tube venue.

On September 10 from 5pm, Reading bartenders will fight it out, showcasing their cocktail making skills in the Purple Turtle on Gun Street.

The cocktail, which is to be based on a ‘Reading’ theme - will be judged by some of the towns finest luminaries based on name, how it looks, and of course - taste.

Reading and Dusseldorf are celebrating 70 years as twinned towns, after Reading took in child orphans from Dusseldorf after it was devastated during World War II.

If you would like to compete and get the chance to win the trip to Dusseldorf and showcase your cocktail, send an email to stuart@purpleturtlebar.com with the subject ‘Dusseldorf Cocktail Competition’ with the name of your cocktail by the August 31.

Jack Hepplewhite, from the Purple Turtle said. “Its great to see all this cultural exchanges going on between Reading and Dusseldorf all of a sudden - this is all down to the hard work that Reading Fringe put in to establish this cultural. I’m ecstatic to see this link explored further - this is a great opportunity for artists in both towns - lets jump on it and keep this relationship strong!"
