BUSINESSMEN took part in a gladiator style competition to raise thousands of pounds for the town's hospice.

People gathered at Laurel Park in Earley for a unique 'It's a knockout' contest to support Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice.

They took part in a variety of challenges using game-show inspired inflatable obstacles.

Cheryl Adams said: "It was a pleasure to support Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice with their fundraising challenge this year.

"The work they do provides critical care services for people in our local community, and so thank you to everyone for their time, their enthusiasm and their generosity in making this event a success".

The event, organised by the Women in Business group, raised a staggering £3,296.35 for the Liebenrood Road hospice.

Rachel Rawlins, corporate fundraiser, added: "Thank you to all of the businesses who organised and took part in this challenge - it was a fantastic day full of enthusiasm and we are extremely grateful to the teams.

"Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice needs to raise £1.4m to continue to provide incredible care this year, so we rely heavily on our local community to support us with fundraising and raising awareness, and this event really helped us do that.”
