HOMELESS and vulnerable people living on the streets need your help at a community fundraiser later this month.

Piaroo's Wish is hosting its first annual fundraising day at Norcot Mission Church on July 29 to continue its support with the rising number of adults on Reading's streets.

Satty Mann founded the charity in honour of her mother, who was also a charity worker with homeless people until she died.

She said: "For a long time I had no idea of the work she did for people and when I found out she spent her time helping people I wanted to do something to remember her by.

"We have been running for about 19 months and up until now we have been able to fund all of our own projects without asking for any funding.

"It is a small team of four and we are like a family. We are all really passionate about helping vulnerable people and we work in partnership with the other excellent charities in the town."

The charity organises regular family picnics in Forbury Gardens and has helped dozens of people get into accommodation and away from drugs.

Satty was homeless when she was growing up in Slough, but after being given the chance to turn her life around she made the move to Reading and is now helping others using her experiences.

She added: "We take donations of clothes, food and toys, but we are really hoping the community will get behind us by donating money on the day.

"We have been fortunate to work with some really interesting people and as part of our outreach work a number of people have found work or got into safer housing.

"The problem is getting worse in Reading and it is vital that we continue to do our part to prevent homelessness and rough sleeping from spiralling out of control.

"We go out in all kinds of weather with food parcels and hot drinks and we support around 50 people."

Visit Norcot Mission Church from midday to 4.30pm on Saturday, July 29 to support Piaroo's Wish.
