PARLIAMENTARY hopefuls have been called upon to hear residents' views on Reading at a 'reverse hustings' debate this month.
Caversham Quakers has invited all political candidates for the town's two seats in parliament to face members of the public on May 31.
The idea is so that they can hear peoples' views on issues in Reading and respond with their pledges for government.
Topics up for discussion are homelessness and housing, integration and isolation, energy and environment as well as creating a fairer society.
The event will be moderated by Quaker John Crosfield.
John Crosfield, a civil engineer from Caversham, said: "Quakers have a keen and long-standing interest in fostering communication between the people and Parliament. We held a similar
event for the last General Election in 2015, which showcased the candidates’ positions and allowed more informed choices to be made by voters.
"This event will enable candidates to hear local views on the issues in Reading for this General Election."
The event will be held at 2 Church Street, Reading, from 7.30 pm to 9.30pm.
Entry is free.
