AN EYE-WITNESS has relived the 'shocking' moment she saw the aftermath of a brutal terror attack which saw a policeman killed and chaos outside the Houses of Parliament.

Karen Boulton, from Caversham, was walking across Westminster bridge with her husband Steve when she saw bodies on the road and dozens of people running in fear.

They were left horrified when a passer-by approached and told the couple to flee the scene of an ongoing terror attack.

Fearing they would not make it home after a terrorist crashed into pedestrians and stabbed a policeman Mrs Boulton frantically called family to ensure her two children were safe.

The 42-year-old, said: "We were walking over the bridge less than five minutes after it happened and there were already emergency services on the scene.

"Everyone was looking completely dazed. It was like a bomb had gone off. Everyone was so shocked.

"A man came up to us and told us there was a terror attack in progress. I knew before that what was going on, I thought something is totally wrong here.

"We made the necessary phone calls because we were concerned that we wouldn't get home. We made sure there were arrangements for our two children and let our family know that we were safe."

Police sealed off Westminster Palace yesterday afternoon.

London was sent into a state of panic as emergency services rushed to the scene at the gates of Westminster Palace shortly after 1.30pm.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed four deaths, including police constable Keith Palmer, whilst seven casualties remain critically wounded in hospital after a car mounted the pavement in the frenzied attack.

Mr and Mrs Boulton had attended the Prime Ministers Questions Time earlier in the day and enjoyed an Italian lunch before discovering the terrifying scene.

Mrs Boulton added: "We went over Westminster Bridge to get lunch at about 1.30, we went to a little Italian place.

"We were in the restaurant and we both felt that we heard something, but there was building work going on so I just put it down to that.

"We finished our meal and paid for the bill at 2.44pm, I still have the receipt.

"We got up and left and started walking back over the bridge. As we got about a third of the way across there was just people laying in the road."

Armed police guard the gates at the scene of the attack.

MPs were stranded in the Houses of Commons and both Rob Wilson and Alok Sharma took to social media to confirm they were safe yesterday evening.

The chief constable of Thames Valley Police has warned there will be a serious security review following the tragedy.

Mark Rowley, from the Met's counter-terrorism policing unit, said: "Tragically the deaths included PC Keith Palmer who was protecting Parliament, and two members of the public - a woman aged in her mid 40’s and a man aged in his mid 50’s.

“The fourth man of course was the terrorist who was shot dead by armed police at the scene.

“It is still our belief - which continues to be born out by our investigation - that this attacker acted alone yesterday and was inspired by international terrorism.

“To be explicit - at this stage, we have no specific information about further threats to the public."
