A PENSIONER had to be cut out of her car after it flipped onto its roof in a frightening accident last night.

The 69-year-old woman was driving her Ford KA on Westwood Road, Tilehurst, shortly after 8pm when she suddenly lost control of the vehicle and it landed on its roof.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and firefighters immediately realised the woman was trapped in the car, and would need to cut free.

Luckily, she sustained only minor injuries from the crash and was only taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital as a precaution.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 20.12 reporting a single car accident, with the car having rolled over. There was a 69-year-old female driver inside and she had to be cut out of her vehicle.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle to the scene. She was only trapped by her seatbelt and not by damage sustained to the car."

Police officers were called to the scene and closed off the road while firefighters worked on cutting the woman from the car before clearing the carriageway of debris.
