Further repairs will be carried out in Caversham after drivers were hit with long delays earlier this month in the same area

Thames Water will be carrying out the repairs on Church Road and St Anne's Road in Caversham throughout the weekend.

Temporary traffic lights will be installed at around 9pm on Friday evening and it is anticipated the the job will be finished on Saturday.

Matrix signs warning drivers of the work will be in place from Friday afternoon.

Thames Water’s Lewis Trusty said: “It is important we get this leak fixed at if left it could soon pose a safety risk to drivers, but taking on board feedback from a recent meeting with Reading Borough Council, we are doing the emergency work overnight and at the weekend to minimise disruption.

"Drivers may still wish to find alternative routes or allow extra time for their journeys though.

"We hope to get the pipe repaired and the road back to normal on Saturday afternoon.”

Angry drivers were subjected to severe delays on Church Road earlier this month by up to 90 minutes.

Temporary traffic lights had blocked off sections of the road, causing gridlock and excessive traffic.

A spokesman for Thames Water added: “Our intention was to complete the emergency repair on a leaking water pipe and reinstate the road overnight, and we are sorry this has taken longer than expected.”
