A YOUTH football team helping dozens of girls get into football is appealing for vital funding.

The under 12 'Super Swans' team from Caversham AFC is hoping generous sponsors can help them buy new kit after last season's sponsors pulled out.

Nigel Skitt, who manages the 30-strong girls team, said: " We're hoping to raise funds to help keep us going for a few years rather than having to find a sponsor every year.

"We thought it could work and get some success but it's stalled a bit.

"We're massively happy if this is funded through the community or if a business wants to get involved that's great."

The team trains on Thursday evenings at Clayfield Copse and welcomes players from all areas, not just Caversham.

The team takes part in nine-a-side matches on Saturday mornings.

The players are provided with a team shirt and hooded jumper when they join the team.

Mr Skitt got involved after taking his own daughter along to training sessions.

"When she was four I got her up to Caversham AFC and it just went from there, I fell into it and ended up coaching a team."

The fundraisers is trying to collect £5,000 to help buy new kit and cover costs of running the team.
