TENNIS fans could soon benefit from overdue improvements to the courts at Christchurch Meadows in Caversham.

An open session will run this coming Saturday between 11am and 1pm with coaches on hand to provide free training for newcomers to the sport.

The courts will be re-painted at the end of the month, with a range of new activities and a new booking system launching at the end of April.

Councillor Paul Gittings, lead member for Sport, said: “The changes we are planning to introduce at Christchurch Tennis Courts will bring a host of benefits for tennis players and I hope it will persuade more people to take up the sport locally.

“I encourage residents to come along on Saturday to find out more. We want to encourage our residents to be as active as possible.

“The provision of good quality, readily accessible sports facilities like this underpins this ambition.”

Reading Borough Council is hoping to provide a variety of new activities at Christchurch Meadows for the next five years in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

GDT Tennis, based in Caversham, will supervise the courts during the summer months and peak hours, with coaching available for all ages.

Sessions will be delivered by LTA accredited coaches and provide increased opportunities for local residents to get active and perhaps learn a new skill.
