A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting another man underneath Caversham Bridge.

The 34-year-old from Reading has since been released on police bail until August 26 after officers scooped him up on Thursday.

The arrest follows a sexual assault on a 31-year-old man at the side of the River Thames, close to the River Spice restaurant.

Between 3.40am and 4am on Wednesday he was approached and attacked by the other man.

He is now being cared for specially trained officers and police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

Investigating officer, PC John Chen of Force CID based at Reading police station, said: "I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police immediately. The easiest way to do this is by calling us on 101 and quoting reference number 136 (11/5), or you can visit your nearest police station.

"I would particularly appeal to anyone who witnessed the sexual assault, or saw or heard anything suspicious in the vicinity of Caversham Bridge in the early hours of this morning.

"The victim is being supported by specially trained officers at this time and we are conducting a thorough investigation into this serious offence."
