SHOCKED neighbours have paid tribute to a mother who was the victim of an alleged murder.

The woman, named locally as Simone Grainger, was found with severe head injuries when police officers rushed to her home in Windsor Way, Calcot, on Saturday.

She was tragically declared dead at the scene and neighbours described her as a loving and friendly woman.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murdering tragic Simone, who was understood to be a mother of two.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Officers were called on Saturday at about 3.30pm by the ambulance service after a 30-year-old woman was found at a property in Windsor Way with serious head injuries.

“Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards and a murder investigation was started.

“A 32-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.”

Today [Monday], mourners could be seen laying flowers outside the house where Mrs Grainger was tragically killed.

Posting on the Chronicle's Facebook page, Becky Driscoll wrote: "I didn’t know you too well Simone but what I did know was how much people thought of you.

"You had a lasting impression on everyone that met you, including myself.

"You were a kind, bubbly, hilarious beautiful lady with a contagious smile and personality! May you rest in peace. Shine bright you beautiful lady."

A blue police forensics tent could be seen in the front garden of the semi-detached property.

Neighbours confirmed Simone and her husband Steven had only recently moved in to the area.

One resident said: “I didn’t know her very well because I have only been here for a short while myself.

“But she was very friendly and welcoming. She was always lovely.

“When I first moved here she was really welcoming.”

Another added: “I didn’t know her very well because they only recently moved in.

“It’s very sad and my thoughts go out to her family for their loss.”

A police patrol car remained outside the property earlier this morning. A post-mortem examination on her body was carried out yesterday [Sunday].

The probe into her murder was set to continue today [Monday] and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Detective superintendent Justin Fletcher, said: "I understand that people in the community will be very concerned about this incident, but I would like to reassure them that we are in the process of carrying out a full investigation, and that we have made an arrest in connection with the incident.

"People in the area will likely see an increased police presence while officers are at the site.

"If anyone has any details which could relate to this incident, I would ask that they call 101."
