UPDATED: Tilehurst homes without water after burst water main
Update: 7.46pm: Thames Water has fixed the water main and the homes affected have running water again.
HOMES across Tilehurst have been left without water since midday today because of a burst water main.
Thames Water has apologised to its customers and branded its response to the burst water main as "unacceptable", as 32 homes prepare for the possibility of Christmas Day without running water.
But speaking to the Chronicle, Natalie Slater, a spokeswoman for the company, said it was doing everything it could to fix the problem and hoped to have the water back on by 7.30pm.
She said: "We have had a burst in a nine inch pipe and unfortunately we have not managed to get any bottled water to customers yet, so we would like to apologise because we know that this is unacceptable."
"Bottled water is on its way now and we will be getting the pipe fixed as soon as possible."
Firefighters from Dee Road were called to a home in Warborough Avenue when the pipe burst, as the water filled its garden and began to creep under the front door of the house.
They spent two hours at the scene, where they stopped the flow and called Thames Water, before draining the garden of water.
