VILLAGERS concerned about rising numbers of burglaries can get tips and anti-crime kits at an exhibition on Saturday.
There were 23 burglaries in Sonning Common between April 2009 and April 2010, up from 11 the year before, and a fivefold increase in Kidmore End and Tokers Green from two to 10.
Most of the houses were empty when the thieves struck and crime reduction adviser for the villages, Julia Wheeler, said: “We are really concerned about the rise in burglaries in Sonning Common. We’re working hard to catch those responsible, but it is also important that residents know how to keep themselves safe and deter burglars from targeting their property.”
The anti-crime exhibition at the Village Hall in Wood Lane, Sonning Common, runs from 9.30am-12.30pm. Officers will be on hand with the latest home security advice, free property marking kits and advice on arranging security surveys and on setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
