HUNDREDS of vessels are expected to moor in West Berkshire for one of the South East's biggest boat shows.

The Beale Park Boat Show is taking place at the Lower Basildon wildlife park for the third year in a row and will be open tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-5pm.

Highlights include an exhibition by The Eyemouth Maritime Centre featuring a replica of the HMAV Bounty launch boat, which Captain William Bligh and 18 faithful crewmen sailed to safety in following the 1789 mutiny. Memorabilia from the 1983 film, Bounty, starring Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson will also be on display.

Organiser Gillie Jackson said: "Our event has earned its place as one of the UK's leading regional boat shows, creating a showcase for the boating community, while working tirelessly to introduce visitors to a life at the waters edge."

"We have several new water based activities such as the opportunity for people to climb inside a giant plastic ball and walk on water, while the Historical Maritime Society will recreate a slice of life at sea in Nelson's navy as re-enactors take to the lake in a 23 foot, full size replica of a frigate's launch."

The showground's seven acre lake will play host to hundreds of vessels, from canoes, coracles, sailing and motor boats to steam, electric, solar and pedal powered craft.

Other attractions include free boat trips, family canoeing sessions, boating displays and a Newfoundland dogs demonstration. There will also be a craft and specialist food marquee, cookery workshops, beer tent, live music and children's activities.

Car enthusiast will not feel left out either thanks to a vintage show featuring the Triumph Stag of Ashes to Ashes fame and Coca Cola Triumph, one of only two produced with the famous Coca Cola livery and Levi denim interior.

Tickets vary from free for under 5s, £2-3 for under 16s and £6-8 for adults with family tickets ranging from £14-18. To book tickets or for more details, including a full show timetable, call 0118 976 7498 or visit www.bealeparkboatshow.co.uk
