CAVERSHAM author and Writers' Circle member Beth Elliott has just missed out on winning a prestigious national award but says she was happy just to be nominated.

She was shortlisted for the Red Roses for Authors' Christmas Award 2009 with her second novel, In All Honour, which is set mainly in Regency Bath.

The Red Roses for Authors panel consists of a group of authors who review new novels throughout the year and award 0-5 red roses to each.

At the end of the year, they list their eight favourite books and then readers are invited to vote for the winners. The eight selected are all romantic novels but from any category and publisher.

The winner was Lindsay Townsend for Bronze Lightning.

Beth, pictured, who taught French and Italian at Alfred Sutton Girls' School and St Crispin's School in Wokingham, was delighted with her nomination, and said: "I was thrilled with the reviewer's comments and to be shortlisted for this award is a lovely bonus."

It was Beth's second nomination last year. Her first novel, The Wild Card, was shortlisted for The Romance Prize, sponsored by the Romantic Novelists' Association.

Her next novel, April And May, a story of romance and international intrigue set in Constantinople in the early 1800s, should be on the book stands at the end of April.

All Beth's work is published by Robert Hale of London Ltd and can be found at good book shops and on Amazon.
