NEW figures show burglary is down across all three police areas spanning Caversham and Emmer Green.

There were 14 reports of burglary in the Caversham Lower Neighbourhood in October compared to 21 in October last year, and the number has dropped from 23 incidents in the Caversham West Neighbourhood to eight for the same months.

In the North neighbourhood, the number of burglaries fell from 12 to eight, and the area's PCSO, John Hendy, said: "As always, the best protection from burglary is vigilance from our residents, so please remember that doors and windows must be shut and locked when not in your direct sight.

"Members of the Caversham team, together with Reading Borough Council's neighbourhood wardens, are constantly on the lookout for insecure properties and if we identify yours as being at risk of burglary you can expect contact from us to offer help and advice.

"The team carried out a number of home security checks last month and would be pleased to offer advice to anyone with concerns about the safety of their home.

"All you need to do is call Thames Valley Police on 08458 505 505 and ask to be put in touch with a member of the Caversham team.

"The website is also an excellent source of information for crime prevention."
