A CAVERSHAM grandfather is appealing for help to find the stolen bicycle he was intending to use on a 900-mile fundraising trip.

Danny Darcy left his £3,000 imported Cannondale Raven mountain bike locked up outside Reading Railway station on Sunday, October 25.

But when he returned that evening, the bike was gone.

Mr Darcy, an entertainer who lives in Piggott Road, Caversham, was training for a ride from John O'Groats to Land's End planned for next year.

Cash raised from the journey was destined for cancer charities in memory if his mother, Josie, who died of breast cancer.

The 59-year-old told The Chronicle: "All I'm left with is my wife's midwife's bicycle, which isn't really suitable for my charity ride. It's got a basket on the front for a start.

"People have already made pledges for my ride and I'd raised about £2,000.

"I am just hoping my bike hasn't been spirited out of the town."

The bicycle is red and black, with full suspension. Mr Darcy wants anyone with information about it to contact Thames Valley Police on 08458 505505.
