Tell police your crime concerns

CAVERSHAM'S police team wants to hear from residents to the north and west of its patch in order to re-start a community safety group.

Officers are asking neighbours in Caversham Heights, Mapledurham, Emmer Green and Caversham Park Village to complete a survey of their top crime worries, with a view to bringing back the areas' Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG).

Police Community Support Officer Karen Vaughan said: "One of the best ways we can be effective is by knowing what people want us to tackle. We want to set up a NAG but then let it drive itself."

Surveys can be found at and returned to either Caversham Library in Church Street or Woodcote Way Post Office, and Emmer Green Primary, Caversham Park Primary and Highdown School when the new term starts early next month.

The deadline is Wednesday, September 30.

Residents have highlighted anti-social behaviour as a concern in the past, a blight all too familiar for Sylvia Mason, whose Silverthorne Drive home was pelted with apples and berries from nearby trees by young yobs on Monday night last week.

Mrs Mason, 69, noticed her damaged windows the next morning and said: "It got me all jittery I can tell you. I could see the red through the net curtain. I was quite shocked."
