COMMUNITY sports teams have been urged by Olympic hockey star Sam Quek to bid for a kit sponsorship worth £300.

Clubs in Reading that want to start the season in style can submit their bids before the end of July.

Quek, 29, said: "Sport plays a huge part in my life, and I’ve always believed grassroots teams play an important role in bringing people and communities together. There are many different benefits of local sports teams; they not only enable budding sports stars to realise their ability, but also help people from all generations to keep fit and active.

“Being part of a sports team can help develop a strong sense of belonging, and it ultimately encourages positive health and wellbeing. I am really looking forward to looking through all the Anglian Support for Sport entries, and to finding out more about the different teams across the country who are passionate about their sport, their club and their local community.”

The kit sponsorship scheme is the brainchild of Anglian Home Improvements, following the launch of its 'Support for Sport 2018' campaign.

To submit a bid, visit www.anglianhome.co.uk/support-for-sport before July 30.

Rachel Munby, marketing director, said: "At Anglian, we want to show our support for the many clubs that are encouraging participation in sport in communities up and down the country, most of which are run by teams of very hardworking and dedicated volunteers. We also want to help inspire all those who play sport on a local level, and are enjoying all the benefits this can bring.

“This summer we want to hear from you if the local sports club you play or coach for would like a helping hand from Anglian. We’re delighted to have Sam Quek MBE on board as an ambassador for this campaign. Not only will Sam help us celebrate the fantastic achievements of community sport teams, but her success will hopefully inspire even greater involvement in sport this summer.”

Candidates will be reviewed by a panel including MBE Quek.

Successful applicatants will be contacted by phone or email before August 17.
