READING East MP pledged support to selfless residents in Reading and Woodley ahead of this year's official Carers Week.

The Labour Party politician attended a Carers Week speed networking event in Westminster on Tuesday to pledge his support to unpaid carers in his constituency.

He heard from carers about their experiences and the support they need to take care of their own mental and physical health and well-being.

Mr Rodda, said: "I was pleased to attend this event, in support of Carers Week, to recognise the important contribution made by the 6.5 million people across the UK who currently provide care and support to a family member or friend.

"Unpaid carers make a huge contribution to our society, and it is right that we value them and ensure they receive the right support to safeguard their own wellbeing.

"I pledge to support the more than 8,000 carers in my constituency through my work in Parliament, and locally, to make a difference to their lives."
