A leak as been reported in Reading, close to the abbey, as freezing temperatures cause havoc with pipes.
A Thames Water spokesman said: “We’re aware of an issue on Abbot's Walk in Reading, and will be sending a team of technicians down there as soon possible to investigate and repair.
“We’ve got as many technicians and repair crews as possible out handling water pipe repairs, with all non-essential planned work postponed. They are doing all they can in extremely challenging conditions to keep our network running.”
Extra staff have been drafted in by the water company as it deals with five times the normal number of issues due to the severe weather.
The number of leaks reported has increased due to the freezing temperatures, but the most disruptive issues will be prioritised.
