POLICE are treating a man's death as unexplained after his body was pulled from the river.

Emergency services were called to Pangbourne at around 11.35am on Wednesday after reports of a body in the water.

Firefighters from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the stretch of water on Bourne Road.

The man's next of kin has been informed, but formal identification is yet to take place.

Police are treating the death as unexplained but not suspicious.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Thames Valley Fire Control Service received a call from Thames Valley Police following reports of a body in the water on Bourne Road in Pangbourne.

"Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Dee Road, Wokingham Road, the multi-role vehicle from Maidenhead and the boat from Caversham Road Fire Station were sent to the scene.

"Firefighters recovered the body from the water. Crews were on the scene for around an hour and 40 minutes."

This is the latest in a series of deaths involving people being recovered from the water.

Police were sent to Caversham Lock on January 27 and Sonning Lock on January 20 to deal with similar incidents.
