A WEATHER warning has been issued for gale force winds on Wednesday (January 17) and Thursday (January 18).

The yellow 'be aware' warning has been issued by the Met Office, and covers a large part of the UK.

It comes after large parts of the country were hit by snow storms overnight (Monday into Tuesday).

The weather will remain dry and sunny in the south east - but there will be 'very strong winds'.

The warning is in place from 9pm on Wednesday until 1pm on Thursday.

A Met Office spokesman said: "The strongest winds are expected to transfer eastwards across the warning area before clearing by early afternoon. Road, rail and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations. There is also a possibility that some bridges may close. Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage. Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible, along with some damage to buildings. In addition, large waves are expected to affect some western coasts with beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads."
