PHILLIP Lee claimed Rob Wilson's defeat in last night's general election is a prime example of 'what went wrong' for the Conservative Party.
Dr Lee, MP for Bracknell, said a rise in the number of young voters was to blame for the Tories failing to secure a majority vote.
He claimed the Labour Party's proposals to scrap university tuition fees meant more young people voted for Jeremy Corbyn as their preferred choice of Prime Minister.
In a perhaps surprising twist, Mr Wilson, 52, lost his seat in Reading East to Labour opposition Matt Rodda.
And Dr Lee said the result in Reading East shows what went wrong for the Tories.
"This has not been a good result for us," asserted Dr Lee when speaking to BBC News.
"You don't call an election to get this outcome.
"I think there is clearly an aspect of the youth vote, I saw it myself on the ground. That I suspect is in part to do with Labour's tuition policy.
"We have lost a fantastic colleague in Rob Wilson in Reading East.
"Reading East voted strongly to remain in the European Union and he (Rob Wilson) also hosts University of Reading.
"If you want to look at a result which indicates what went wrong last night look at Rob Wilson's result."
