Sewage smell sweeps through Reading
PASSERS-BY kicked up a stink after a sewage smell swept through Broad Street and St Mary's Butts on Monday.
The power pong came from Reading sewage works after a power cut stopped one of the odour filtering machines working.
A Thames Water spokesman said: "A power cut at Reading sewage works at the weekend led to some of the equipment that filters out the sewage odour to stop working.
"We’re sorry the smell has drifted away from the site but replacement parts are on the way, and we expect everything to be back to normal by Wednesday."
