AN INVESTIGATION launched after two men approached a young-schoolgirl in Caversham has been called off.

The strangers went up to the 11-year-old girl at 3pm on Wednesday, January 18. Thames Valley Police were called two hours later and say the child's movements were unknown during that time.

Now officers say no offence took place and all investigations have been called off.

Detective Inspector Dave Turton based at Reading police station, said: “Thames Valley Police takes all reports of this nature very seriously, and we would always advise members of the public to report suspicious incidents to us by calling 101.

“In this case we have carried out an extremely thorough investigation and can now confirm that no offences took place and as a result the matter has now concluded.”

A stretch of Hemdean Road by Caversham Primary School was cordoned off for nearly 24 hours.

Police officers remained on the scene until 2pm on Thursday, January 19 but parents say they were not warned about the incident.

The young girl is safe and unharmed.
