JAAP Stam is set to confront Reading FC’s owners following a rumoured takeover after one of the club’s shareholders flew in to watch the Royals win 3-1 against Norwich City, writes Courtney Friday.

Reports emerged recently that Chinese brother and sister Dai Yongee and Dai Xiu Li are set to take over from Royals’ current Thai consortium, and Stam said there are questions he would like answered.

The Dutchman heaped praise on his side following a hard-fought victory against Alex Neil’s Norwich City as Reading’s shareholder Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth, better known as Tiger, watched from the stands.

Speaking after the game, Stam (pictured) said he would be speaking to the club’s owners in the coming days to discuss the club’s situation and potential transfers.

“It’s a surprise for me as well,” declared Stam.

“We are going to be talking about the team and the club. The thing is, if something is going to happen I can’t tell you.

“I’m going to ask him what’s going on. I read things in the press and, of course, the club don’t tell me everything. I will ask him if something is going to happen to the club.

“I’ll ask him if we can bring certain players with certain qualities into the club to make the team even stronger.”

Despite a slow start to the game, Reading took the lead in the first half when Yann Kermorgant guided a header past John Ruddy following a wonderful delivery from Liam Kelly.

City retaliated in the second half with a goal from Nelson Oliveira, but Reading struck again moments later following a goal-line handball from visiting midfielder Johnny Howson.

Kermorgant stepped up to take the spot kick but his cheeky chip crashed against the crossbar, only for Garath McCleary to react first and head the ball into the net.

Stam continued: “We spoke about how we can harm them, we tried to do that. Sometimes we went forward and were a threat but sometimes they made it hard for us.

“We came out well on the break and eventually we got the penalty we deserved.

“It was a great goal but I would rather Yann scored it first time!

“Yann has great technique and normally when he takes penalties in training he hits it very hard and the keeper only feels the ball, he doesn’t see it. He made a decision and we have a habit of scoring from rebounds when the ball comes back out.

“We could have done better and maybe should have done better, but you have to be realistic because you’re playing a top side with a lot of quality. You can’t expect to dominate every game.

“We didn’t give away a lot of chances. The opposition had a lot of quality and they have kept their squad intact so they made it difficult for us.”

A late Callum Harriott strike sealed the win and the manager added: “Callum scored a great goal. I’m very happy with the result and how we played.”
