A DRIVER who was assaulted inside his own car jumped from a moving vehicle in a bid to escape his attacker.

The 42-year-old suffered life changing injuries after Clyde Smart forced his way into the car and repeatedly beat and threatened him.

Fearing for his safety the man threw himself onto the street as Smart sped off in the car on November 18, 2015.

Police officers later found him lying in Southcote Road and had him rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Appearing at Reading Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday) Smart, 38, of no fixed abode, was jailed for two years and two months after admitting to one count of causing grievous bodily harm at an earlier hearing.

He was first arrested on December 17 and charged the following day.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Karen Brown from Reading Force CID said: "This has been a very difficult time for the victim and his family, and I would like to commend him for his bravery in coming forward and for supporting the police investigation.

"This positive outcome will hopefully assist the victim with now moving forward with his life."
