THE fairies may have fallen, but they will forever be in the hearts of the visitors to Withybush Woods who took time to decorate the trees with doors and trinkets.

The decision by Pembrokeshire County Council to remove the doors for environmental reasons last week has elicited a strong response from our readers.

So, the Western Telegraph has put together a gallery of your photographs of the fairy doors to help remember the decorations before they were spirited away.

Some have come out in support of the council’s decision, saying they were right to move decorations and trinkets in case they were eaten by birds living on the nearby ponds.

Others have agreed with this sentiment but have said the council should have notified the public before moving the fairy doors.

Rhiannon Armstrong said: “All the council had to do was the minimal job of a sign asking for biodegradables only, is that how lazy PCC have become that they can't do that for the sake of a bit of magic for the kids.”

And others still have been utterly disappointed by the decision, saying it has ruined the fun of children living in the area.

Anna Picton, whose son has severe autism said she was severely upset by the decision to remove the doors.

“Over the last 12 months we have visited the woods almost daily. He loves being amongst the trees and part of his “routine” is to spot all the little “fairy towns” as he will say.

“He sits quietly and loves to look at all the little towns and is so careful not to knock anything over,” she said.

Anna said she and her son will now be avoiding the woods.

“I’ve always been so proud of the fact that nobody felt it necessary to spoil this for the children. It was truly a special experience for them to take part in this past-time.”

There has even been talk of organising a silent protest next Monday to show the disappointment felt with the council’s decision.
