A LEGENDARY fantasy illustrator will be making an appearance in Reading later this month for a book signing.

J.R.R. Tolkien artist Alan Lee is coming to Waterstones on August 31 to celebrate the highly-anticipated release of 'Fall of Gondolin'.

Lee is the creator of the hugely-successful illustrated editions of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

He was the winner of the 1994 Kate Greenaway Medal for Children’s Book Illustration and has worked as an illustrator on the popular Hobbit film series.

His relationship with the Tolkein Estate spans more than a quarter of a century and his work on Peter Jackson's 'Return of the King' earned him an Oscar.

The book signing event will run from 1pm and is free to attend.
