A YOUNG family was told to eat dinner in their bedrooms as their living room was too unsafe to use.

Abbey May, of Roebuck Estate, Foxley Lane, had her home inspected by Action Dry Emergency Services, after she discovered large amounts of damp on the wall.

She claims that Silva Homes (The new trading name for Bracknell Forest Homes), refused to help her and instead suggested she and her family eat dinner in their bedrooms.

The report from Action Dry lists their home as being unacceptable.

Mrs May said: "It's dreadful. I've got children here and we're being told there's nothing they can do to help us.

"Silva Homes say they haven't got enough money to come and help us, so we're just left with this.

"We can't continue to live like this. It has made my daughter ill twice now, and I'm worried it will just keep getting worse."

The estimated cost of repairs in the home was £5,820.91, which includes technology to clean up the dampness, the man hours and the anti-damp system installation in the home.

The report states: "Clearly visible mould growth was observed to exposed surfaces. The tiles are a vapour barrier and will need to be removed where walls are tested and shown to be wet.

"The property needs drying. Visible mould should be removed as it is a health hazard.

"Various high readings from bathroom walls and floor indicate elevated unwanted moisture conditions. Some strip out works will be necessary and a meaningful drying programme will need to be set up."
