FRENCH festivities returned to Forbury Gardens at the weekend as part of the 2018 Bastille Festival.

The popular annual celebration has been well supported in Reading since 2012 and this year's event was made all the more special by France's success in the World Cup.

Visitors enjoyed family-friendly stalls and entertainment throughout Saturday and Sunday, including traditional French cuisine and spectacular performances.

Event organiser Vincent Valère welcomed hundreds of guests to the town centre to celebrate diversity across the two-day festival.

He said: "It was a great event. Both days were full of people enjoying the stands like French farmers and master crepes.

"We are proud that Bastille Day Reading was born in Berkshire and we won the World Cup final and we watched it in Forbury Gardens.

"Bastille Day has a bright future in Berkshire. We would like to say thank you to Reading for the opportunity to share our culture."

The first year of the festival attracted 2,500 visitors.
