A MAN was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after a fight in the town centre on Sunday evening.

Officers were called to St Mary’s Butts, outside Burger King, at around 10.50pm following reports of an assault.

Police believe two men were involved in the altercation, which resulted in a 26-year-old man being taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for specialist treatment.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and is in police custody.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We received a 999 call at 10.45pm, reporting a serious assault on a male in his mid-20s.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and an emergency doctor to the scene.

"The patient had sustained a serious head injury and after initial treatment at the scene was taken to the major trauma unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in a serious but stable condition."
