A CHICKEN shop has been named as one of the UK's top 'drunk food' hotspots.

Reading's Chicken Base, on Wokingham Road, is second most popular choice for revellers, according to a national study.

The survey from Mystudenthalls.com has today revealed its 2018 Drunk Food Index, ranking the UK’s best fast food in university towns and cities.

Mystudenthalls.com founder Dan Roberts said: “There is certainly no denying that a good local takeaway is a large part of any student experience, and our new index celebrates the very best of these great local businesses that often become iconic with students old and new.”

Liverpool is the UK’s capital for ‘drunk food’, with chicken shop staple, Nabzy’s, bagging the top spot in an index of the nation’s favourite late-night foodie stops for students.

Reading’s infamous Chicken Base takes second place, closely followed by Cambridge University student institution, the Trailer of Life, known and loved for serving cheesy chips for the past 26 years.

According to the dictionary, a ‘base’ is officially the foundation or starting point for something, and number 144 on Wokingham Road is very much this.

So, if you’re returning home from a night out in Reading or the Union, and in the mood for some nuggets, strips, wings, or pieces of chicken, Chicken Base ticks all the boxes. They have a dedicated halal options and a dedicated Peri-Peri menu too.

Our recommendation: Anything with the word chicken in it. Okay, If we have to pick, fried chicken and chips.
