THIEVES tricked an elderly man into thinking they were from the water board before stealing his wallet and jewellery.

The victim, a 79-year-old man, answered the door to two people on February 17 in Hunters Court, Woodley, some time between midday and 2pm.

One of them distracted the pensioner by saying there had been a leak in a neighbouring property and that they needed to access the victim's home to turn off the water supply.

The offender escorted the victim to the kitchen while the other suspect searched the house and stole his valuables.

They stole a wallet, bank cards and jewellery and later used the bank cards to withdraw money from his accounts.

Police constable Mike Parker, from the Investigation Hub at Loddon Valley, said: "I would like to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or can provide further information about the offender, that may assist this investigation.

"I would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in this area around the time of the incident."

The victim was not injured during the incident.

Investigating officers have released CCTV images of people they wish to speak to in connection with the theft.

Police constable Charlotte Brown added: “I would like to speak to the people in these CCTV images as they may have vital information that could assist our investigation.

“Anyone who recognises these individuals should contact Thames Valley Police."
