A PAIR of middle-aged men were hospitalised after being assaulted in a pub.

On Friday June 8 at 10.50pm, two 52-year-old men were assaulted in The Butler pub in Chatham Street, Reading.

They were attacked in the courtyard area between the bar and the toilet by another man who ran into the area, and both were taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital.

One of the men required stitches to a head wound and a broken collar bone, whilst the other suffered eye and head injuries.

A 55-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of GBH and ABH, but was released under investigation.

Investigating officer PC James Bone, from Reading Investigation Hub, said: "This was a very violent attack which left two men needing hospital treatment.

"We are appealing to anyone who saw what happened to come forward and contact us on 101.

"In particular, it's believed a man may have come into the courtyard during the assault and may have seen what happened. It's understood this man helped restrain the offender.

"We would really like to speak to him and anyone who saw what happened before and during this incident."
