TRIUMPHANT young netball players have returned with bronze medals after competing in a national championship.

Woodley Under-14s travelled to Newcastle for the National Club Finals, having gone undefeated in their region all season.

They were eventually toppled by Turnford, but beat Hatfield to claim a spot on the podium after a hugely-successful campaign.

Ruth Claridge, junior lead coach, was 'extremely proud' of the girls after a positive first day at Northumbria University guaranteed a top six finish.

She added: "The girls put in the effort all season and I knew they were good enough to go all the way.

"I would like to say a big thank you to our sponsor for funding the long journey up to Newcastle. It made it much easier for the girls to relax and focus on winning."
